What to do in Annecy when it rains

A shower is a chance to discover another side of Annecy. Museums, exhibitions and performances can make a rewarding indoor day, depending on current opening times.

Plan a rainy day

Choose one main visit first: a museum, science exhibition or performance. Check its opening times and build lunch or a café break around it. Two nearby venues are usually more enjoyable than repeated car journeys.

Musée-Château and Palais de l’Île fit naturally into an old-town visit. Journeys between venues are still outdoors: bring waterproof clothing and suitable shoes, particularly for cobbles and the climb to the castle.

With children, check the programme

A science workshop or short visit may work better than a lengthy exhibition. La Turbine’s activities and Bonlieu’s performances change with the season. Check recommended ages, language, duration and booking arrangements.

The family filter suggests possibilities, not suitability for every age. Allow time to arrive and take a break between visits. Even a free activity may require advance booking.

Heritage and access

Historic buildings may have steps, uneven floors and spaces that are difficult to reach. If you use a pushchair or have specific access needs, contact the venue before buying a ticket.

Menthon Castle combines an indoor visit with outdoor approaches and grounds. Tours are seasonal. Similarly, theatre visits depend on the performance calendar: check dates instead of turning up without a ticket.

Your questions, useful answers

Which rainy-day activities are in the centre?

Musée-Château and Palais de l’Île offer two ways to explore Annecy’s heritage. Check opening hours and bring rain protection for walking between them.

Can I visit without booking?

It depends on the activity. Performances, workshops and guided visits can sell out. Follow each listing’s link to check arrangements and book with the organiser.

Is the Gorges du Fier an indoor activity?

No. It is an outdoor, seasonal route subject to opening conditions. Choose a museum or exhibition if you want to stay under cover.
